Karyn

Karyn2970.jpgYour name: Karyn Hatch

Workshop: week 1

If you have a nickname, what is it? Bebo or KJ

Are you single, married, have children? Married, 3 years in February! No kiddos yet.

What state do you live in ? Grew up my entire life in Texas, got married and then moved to Northern Virginia

What do you spend way too much of your time doing? Reading blogs…I’m obsessed!

What do you wish you could spend more of your time doing? Traveling

How did photography find you? I have always loved photography and have always dreamed of doing it. My best friends did it, so I took the leap and have now started on my own.

What is your favorite thing to take pictures of? People! I love capturing the different looks you get when you put a camera in front of a child…you never know what you’re going to get. I like taking landscape pictures, but would much rather stick a person in it somewhere.

How long have you been doing photography ? For fun…forever. As a business…1 month as of August! I’m a newbie, for sure!

Do you have a photography business? If so, for how long? Um, yes…I think! I just started about a month ago and I’m still doing friends/family at this point, but I’m praying that by February I will hopefully have a growing business!

What is your favorite food? Anything Mexican! Not being in Texas anymore I have my withdrawals every now and then and have to settle for East Coast Mexican food, which is just not the same as the Mexican food in my hometown, 20 miles from Mexico!

What is something you can’t live without? God, my hubby, and my family

What is something no one knows about you? Some people know this, but very few…if I ever have an allergic reaction to food, my lips are the first thing to swell and they look like freshly injected, very plump lips…but way too plumped for me! It will stay like that for about two days.

What is on your iPod or Playlist: A workout playlist of random songs…fast songs. The new Maroon 5 album and a few podcasts

Are you a night owl or early riser? Really I’m neither. I do best going to bed around 11pm and getting up around 8am, but that doesn’t happen too often. I’d rather be a night owl than an early riser though for sure!

What is your favorite guilty pleasure? Either chips and hot sauce or peanut butter by the spoon, straight out of the jar!

If you could have dinner with anyone in the world…dead or alive, who would it be? Oh, not sure on this one. Maybe Julia Roberts or Reece Witherspoon?

What are some things that you like? Scrapbooking, chocolate, my Jack Russell (Harley), the spring and fall in Virginia, traveling

What are some things you don’t like
? Dishonest people, Egotistical people, cottage cheese, olives, DC traffic

When you can do anything, what do you do? Go to the beach

What do you have to do before you die? Travel more. I’d love to go to Greece, the Italian Riviera, parts of Eastern Europe and Australia/New Zealand. It’s a lot, I know, but I hope to live a good healthy life and somehow find a way to pay to go to all these places!

Tell us something more about you: I can be a reserved person, but can also be hyper and outgoing depending on who I’m around. I adore my husband and family more than anything. I come from a very large family (35 people as of Sept. 2007!) I have a degree in Elementary Education and taught school for 3 years before getting married. I now am a nanny of 3 kids under 3 years old, with one on the way! It’s crazy but It’s definitely preparing me for motherhood.

Funny I LOVE to laugh and love it when people make me feel like I’m funny, because I know I’m not that funny of a gal!

Serious I might not always give the best advice, but I have a great ear for listening

Entertaining Potty training 2 ½ year old boy/girl twins…it is entertaining, trust me! I never thought I’d talk about poop and pee so much in my adult life!

Philosophical There is a plan and a purpose for everything and everyone

Exciting By the time the workshop comes around in February, I will know where I will be living for the next 7 to 10 years!!! I’ve waited a long time for this!

True I have a hard time telling people no

Meaningful I was told once by someone older and wiser that you’ll end up in life with 5 faithful and loyal friends that will be true until the end…one for each finger on your hand.

Powerful I can do all things through Christ

Name 2 of your weaknesses: I can be overly critical of myself, public speaking to large crowds

Name 5 of your strengths: Optimistic, easy to get a long with, very laid back, organized, loyal

Hey Karyn
I loved reading your answers...I know what it's like to have a hobby turn into a career..it is amazing..a little scary at times but AMAZING!! I use to own and run a preschool then I started to do pictures as favors for friends...almost 7 years later I am doing photography full time as a business!I am also addicted to scrapbooking..I don't get to do it as often as I like but at least once a year a bunch of us rent a house on the beach and scrapbook all weekend! See ya in Feb

Karyn!!! I'm very excited to meet you!! All these "southern" girls!!! I'm probably one of the oldest - but I can't begin to tell you that if you stick to your philosophy and belief in God, you CAN do all things. I am, at my age - and it's hard but I have put family first and my faith right along the side of that and have let God guide my business. I started eating peanut butter, out of the jar, when I was a young mom (I have a funny peanut butter "deprived" story to tell) - because I LOVE it -- if I could go anywhere, anytime - it's the beach too (San Clemente this Labor Day weekend in So.Calif.!! yeah!!! (finally walking away from editing!!!) You sound rock solid, for a young woman, and I can't wait to meet you!!! Good luck and God Bless you in your new business until then!!! deb :)

Hey Karyn - I'm really looking forward to meeting you :) I'm a complete newbie also!! My husband is a photographer, and we have been building a photography business for some months now (with him being the photographer, and me doing the business side), so I am completely new to the photography part :) There will definitely be a diverse group of girls there at week 1!

Hey Karyn. Another newbie and Southern here. I also love peanut butter straight out of the jar. It's a bad habit, but it's so good. Can't wait to meet ya in week 1.

wow karyn! Congrats on the new business... this workshop is going to be great for you! We also share a common obsession... blogs... I love reading them and google reader rss feeds changed my life. Now I just have to deal with the anxiety of keeping up with them.

Another thing we have in common... I was a nanny in highschool and some of my college before I began my photo business. I watched three adorable boys and had a blast hanging out with them!

you nanny twins? I am soooo jealous... I have always wanted twins or triplets or some kind of multiple birth when I have kids one day!

See you in Feb... woohoo!
